{"id":9800,"date":"2008-09-14T09:47:13","date_gmt":"2008-09-14T07:47:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.randos-montblanc.com\/?p=9800"},"modified":"2022-08-03T19:56:47","modified_gmt":"2022-08-03T17:56:47","slug":"nid-aigle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.randos-montblanc.com\/en\/hard-hikes\/nid-aigle.html","title":{"rendered":"Nid d&#8217;Aigle and Bionnassay Glacier"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"cap\" >The Nid d\u2019Aigle is the terminus of the famous Mont Blanc train, the arrival point of a large number of tourists of all nationalities and departure of the route to Mont Blanc.<br \/>\nThe route passes through the pastures of the Are and follows along Bionnassay Glacier at the foot of Aiguille de Bionnassay.<br \/>\nThe well-marked track, without difficulty down to the bottom of the glacier, becomes harder when it comes to climbing two short metal ladders sealed in the rock and the crossing of a rocky passage equipped with a handrail just before the station of the Nid d\u2019Aigle.<br \/>\nThe arrival at the Cabane des Rognes among the ibex is magical, even if the place is very busy in summer. The trail that continues towards T\u00eate Rousse can awaken, in some, the call of the summits under the eternal snow.<br \/>\n<script async=\"\" src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><\/span><\/p>\n<p><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3567350517589380\" data-ad-slot=\"5784331615\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script><br \/>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<br \/>\n<\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Difficulty<\/strong>: Hard <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"32\" height=\"37\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-710\" src=\"http:\/\/www.randos-montblanc.com\/images\/bouton\/hiking-icon-difficile.png\" alt=\"hiking-icon-moyen\"\/><\/li>\n<li><b>Altitude<\/b>: 2,372 m at the Nid d&#8217;Aigle ; 2,768 m at the Baraque des Rognes<\/li>\n<li><b>Ascent<\/b>: 3 hours 00 min<\/li>\n<li><b>Descent<\/b>: 2 hours 15 min<\/li>\n<li><strong>Elevation Gain<\/strong>: 1,380 meters<\/li>\n<li><strong>Round-trip<\/strong>: 13.6 km<\/li>\n<li><strong>Map<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.randos-montblanc.com\/images\/ign\/ign-aigle.png\" onclick=\"return popitup(this.href, 500, 500);\" class=\"simple_popup_link \">&lt;b&gt;IGN 3531 ET&lt;\/b&gt;<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4><strong>Getting There<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"first-child\">Head towards Chamonix and go to Saint-Gervais. Follow signs for Les Contamines-Montjoie. At the exit of Saint-Gervais after 1 km take the small road left towards Bionnassay.<br \/>\nThe mountain road is very narrow and requires vigilance for the possible crossing of vehicles.<br \/>\nArriving at Bionnassay, head to the car park of Crozat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GPS Coordinates (WGS 84) of the Starting Point<\/strong>: 45.867903, 6.760265<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Ascent<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"first-child\">The trail, marked with signs indicating the direction of the Nid d\u2019Aigle, starts right at the entrance of the Crozat car park. The path enters the forest to get to the chalets of Planet following the high-voltage line. The crossroads is reached very soon after a few&nbsp;switchbacks: leave on the left a footway that goes in the direction of Bellevue, and continue on the right. You arrive then at a barrier delimiting the alpine pastures of the Are. The chalet is located at the top left and is hardly visible from the road.<br \/>\nA small explanatory sign describes the breed of the alpine cows (H\u00e9rens breed) that we will meet here.<br \/>\nAfter an extensive plateau, the route goes up to reach the back of the moraine of Bionnassay Glacier.<br \/>\nThe pathway then goes to the left and crosses a small torrent before rising more frankly to get to a first passage equipped with a handrail and then a metal ladder.<br \/>\nA second scale allows the crossing of the last perilous passage. The magnificent landscape on Bionnassay Glacier turns away the eyes from the path that nevertheless requires particular attention on this part of the ascent.<br \/>\nContinue to reach a short portion equipped with a handrail before a long crossing that leads to the arrival station of the Nid d\u2019Aigle.<br \/>\nFollow the road towards the restaurant and take the left track to the Refuge de T\u00eate Rousse and the Cabane des Rognes. The progression is pretty physical in the D\u00e9sert of Pierre Ronde. Pretty steep, the footpath goes towards a rain gage that is passed on the right.<br \/>\nAnother effort and the roof of the Cabane des Rognes appears; Keep moving and bypass the Cabane des Rognes by the right (following red markings) to reach a vertiginous ridge, but without any danger, dominating the Chamonix Valley.<br \/>\nThe place is ideal for observing D\u00f4me du Go\u00fbter and its visible refuge, Aiguille de Bionnassay, and on the right overlooking the valley, Aiguille du Midi and, on the other side, the Br\u00e9vent, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.randos-montblanc.com\/en\/tag\/aravis-range\">Aravis Range<\/a>.<br \/>\nSeveral ibexes accustomed to the frequentation of the places bask in the sun while watching the many hikers and climbers who go to the assault of the mythical \u201crooftop of Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Descent<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"first-child\">Take the same road as described above.
