{"id":19223,"date":"2021-08-29T11:56:45","date_gmt":"2021-08-29T09:56:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.randos-montblanc.com?p=19223"},"modified":"2021-08-29T12:17:14","modified_gmt":"2021-08-29T10:17:14","slug":"chaos-cheran","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.randos-montblanc.com\/en\/intermediate-hikes\/chaos-cheran.html","title":{"rendered":"Chaos du Ch\u00e9ran"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Chaos du Ch\u00e9ran walk starts at the Pont de l&#8217;Ab\u00eeme, a remarkable structure built in 1885 by Ferdinand Arnodin which links the village of Cusy to that of Gruffy above the Ch\u00e9ran. With a span of almost 75 metres and overlooking the Ch\u00e9ran by 96 metres, the view is breathtaking and superb.<\/p>\n<p>The itinerary forms a loop which allows you to walk along the Ch\u00e9ran as far as the Cusy footbridge and to return to the starting point on the other bank. Numerous explanatory and entertaining panels on the fauna and flora allow you to discover and understand the biotope of the area. The route, which is accessible to all, is very well marked out and the steepest or slippery parts are equipped with footbridges or wooden logs: there is therefore no danger.<\/p>\n<p>However, it should be noted that the descent at the start of the trail is very steep and, as a result, the ascent to the other side at the end of the trail is a series of fairly steep log stairs that require a certain amount of effort. In addition, you have to be careful at the beginning of the route: after crossing the Pont de l&#8217;Ab\u00eeme, you have to walk along the narrow road for about 300 metres to take the well-marked path on the left.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Difficulty<\/strong>: Intermediate <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-710\" src=\"http:\/\/www.randos-montblanc.com\/images\/bouton\/hiking-icon-moyen.png\" alt=\"hiking-icon-difficile\"\/><\/li>\n<li><b>Altitude<\/b>: 556 m<\/li>\n<li><b>Loop<\/b>: 2 hours 15 min<\/li>\n<li><strong>Elevation Gain<\/strong>: 350 meters<\/li>\n<li><strong>Round-trip<\/strong>: 5.7 km<\/li>\n<li><strong>Map<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wikiloc.com\/hiking-trails\/chaos-du-cheran-82432082\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>IGN 3431 OT<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4><strong>Getting There<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Reach the Pont de l&#8217;Ab\u00eeme car park, near Cusy, south-west of Annecy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GPS Coordinates (WGS 84) of the Starting Point<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/MzbhrJDuiJJsketZ7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">45.764444, 6.057667<\/a><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Route Description (loop)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>From the car park, reach and cross the Pont de l&#8217;Ab\u00eeme. This bridge makes a lot of noise when cars pass over. However, there is no need to be afraid, the structure is solid. Continue along the small road for about 300 metres to reach the path on the left and follow the direction of the Passerelle de Cusy as indicated by the sign. A fairly steep descent leads to the bottom of the gorge and the banks of the Ch\u00e9ran. At the Cochet Nord sign, continue towards the Chaos du Ch\u00e9ran: the path is a little steeper, but equipped with wooden footbridges that make the progression quite easy.<\/p>\n<p>The Chaos du Ch\u00e9ran offers a view of the gorges and the pont de l&#8217;Ab\u00eeme. From there, turn back to the previous signpost and walk towards the Passerelle de Cusy. Follow the well-marked path along the Ch\u00e9ran, punctuated by explanatory signs, until you reach the Passerelle de Cusy. Cross the Ch\u00e9ran and go to the Cabane des P\u00eacheurs. Then, head towards the Pont de l&#8217;Ab\u00eeme.<\/p>\n<p>The path then moves away from the Ch\u00e9ran and starts to go up before going back down to its banks. Continue until you reach a fairly steep slope. Then, after a flat area, a steep series of log stairs makes it easier to climb back to the starting point.
