Le Mont de Grange offre un des plus beaux panoramas du Chablais

A spread out massif

The Massif du Chablais is the second largest massif in the northern Pre-Alps and is full of a host of mountains that are accessible to all. The massif is surrounded by the Bernese Alps to the north, the Giffre to the south-east and the Bornes to the south-west. In addition, the massif is made up of sedimentary limestone and silico-clastic rocks.

A diversity of peaks

Le Chablais culminates at 2466 m at the top of the Hauts-Forts on the resort of Avoriaz. The Hauts-Forts is, it must be said, a difficult hike that requires a certain amount of training and a safe foot. In the western part of the massif, it is possible to make many easy outings to the Praz-de-Lys Sommand resort, such as Pointe de Chalune. In addition, I also recommend the Bellevaux region with its peaks offering peaceful walks. I have in mind in particular Pointe d’Ireuse and Mont Forchat.

Among the most striking peaks of the Chablais region, I would certainly mention the Môle (1863 m). Its shape, clearly visible from Geneva, is somewhat reminiscent of that of Mount Fuji in Japan. In winter, the Chablais is a prime playground for skiing and snowshoeing. The resort of Les Gets and Samoëns are ideal places for a winter walk.

You will find below a selection of hiking routes that I have been able to do in the Chablais. Each hiking itinerary is carefully documented with a description, a trail and photos. Feel free to send us your comments or remarks by email or at the bottom of the corresponding articles.

Tête de Lindaret

10 October 2018 | by Pierre-Alexandre

Tête de Lindaret is a summit of the Chablais Massif, located in the south of the protected natural area of Mont de Grange. The toponym Lindaret limitaris meaning something "that makes limits or borders". Of intermediate difficulty, the itinerary I propose here describes a loop that starts from the Lindarets

Pointe de Pelluaz is a peak located in the heart of the Chablais massif, south of the Dent d'Oche. Described as peeled or bare mountain by its toponym, Pointe de Pelluaz is a beautiful hiking destination within everyone's reach. Indeed, despite a cumulative positive gain of 730 m,

Pointe de Tréchauffé

15 October 2017 | by Pierre-Alexandre

Pointe de Tréchauffé is a summit of Chablais, which rises to 1627 m above sea level, and is the subject of a magnificent hike in the heart of the Aulps Valley. The route I propose describes a loop starting above the Chalets de Tréchauffé

Meulières du Mont Vouan

14 October 2017 | by Pierre-Alexandre

Located in the municipality of Viuz-en-Sallaz, the Mont Vouan site includes a group of seven millstones (i. e. millstone quarries) classified as historical monuments on 11 March 2009. Exploited from the late Middle Ages to the end of the 19th century, these milling mills bear witness

Mont Forchat

1 October 2017 | by Pierre-Alexandre

Despite its low altitude, Mont Forchat, located in the heart of the Vallée Verte, allows you to discover the whole of Chablais Massif and offers a magnificent view of Lake Geneva and the Mont Blanc Massif.

Le Môle

29 July 2017 | by Pierre-Alexandre

Le Môle is one of the greatest classics of the region that allows discovering a 360 ° panorama on all the surrounding massifs, notably the nearby Bornes, but also the Giffre and the Chablais. If you're too tired to climb the mountain, the Petit Mole constitutes a great spot to observe the

Grande Pointe des Journées

Grande Pointe des Journées, whose name derives from the word "journal" and designates the area of land that can be worked in a day, is a summit of the Chablais Massif culminating at 1,722 m

Pointe de Chavasse

15 July 2017 | by Pierre-Alexandre

Pointe de Chavasse dominates the ski resort of Praz-de-Lys Sommand. Its ascension is easy and does not involve any particular difficulty. A very short passage on a ridge can impress, but in no case can it be an obstacle even for people who are afraid of heights

Haute Pointe

14 April 2017 | by Pierre-Alexandre

Must-see for the regulars of the resort of Sommand, the Haute Pointe is a walk easily accessible by a trail that goes up the mountain pastures of Sommand and gives the hiker the opportunity to discover a very wide number of peaks

Crête des Rasses

18 February 2017 | by Pierre-Alexandre

Little known by walkers because of its off-centered location towards the ski resort of Praz de Lys Sommand, Crête des Rasses nevertheless remains a nice hiking objective with its panorama on Haute Pointe, Pointe de Rovagne, but also Montagne d’Hirmentaz. Without difficulty

Dent d’Oche

3 September 2016 | by Pierre-Alexandre

Located in the heart of the Pays de Gavot, Dent d’Oche, overlooking Lake Geneva, offers a surprisingly rich hiking objective. During the ascent, the trail through the alpine pastures changes rapidly as it goes up amidst rocks from the refuge

Pointe de Chalune

29 June 2016 | by Pierre-Alexandre

Pointe de Chalune is a typical family walk that will allow one to discover the summits of the Chablais from a considerable altitude while remaining accessible to the greatest number. It is also a superb hike in winter in snowshoes
